A. General information

1. Where is WAKHOK University?

A. WAKHOK University has two campus. The main campus is located at Wakkanai,   Hokkaido the northernmost city of Japan.
The Satellite Campus of WAKHOK University-The Tokyo Satellite Campus is located at Akhiabara, Tokyo.



2. How can I request or download Application materials of WAKHOK University?

A. The application Materials along with the application guideline can be accessed from the link "Application Materials" . Further information regarding the application materials can be provided by International Department at international-admin@wakhok.ac.jp


3. What are the programs offered by WAKHOK University?

A. The Wakkanai Campus offers the following programs:
a. 4 Years Bachelors in Information Technology and Media Arts(starting from the first year)
b. Research

The Tokyo Satellite Campus offers the following programs:
a. 3rd year Transfer program in Bachelors in Information Technology and Media
b. Research
c. Intensive Japanese Language Program


4.What is the eligibility for the Research program?

A. To be eligible for the Research program, the students
must have completed Bachelors in Information Science.


5. What level of Japanese Language proficiency is required for my studies for Research program?

A. There is no such compulsory requirement.


6. What is Transfer program of the University?

A. The Transfer program is available at Tokyo Satellite Campus whereby the students who have already completed 2nd year of Bachelors program from other Universities or institutes can apply. Also, the course has gained popularity amongst the candidates who have already completed their Bachelors program and is in the working environment in order to refresh their skills.


7. Does WAKHOK offer Japanese Language course for non-native speakers?

A. Yes, WAKHOK offers Japanese Language course for non-native speakers at International Student Center, Tokyo Satellite Campus at Akhiabara, Tokyo.


8.Are the University scholarships available at WAKHOK University?

9. How can I apply for Monbukagakusho(Japanese Government ) Scholarship?

A. Please visit the website Monbukagakusho Scholarships which provides details on various kinds of Government Scholarship to the International Students.


B. Living at Wakkanai


1. What will I do if I get sick?

A. The students have to bear the monthly health insurance charge. By this, there will be 80% discount in their medical check up in the hospitals. The hospitals are nearby the University. The dentistry are also available in the walking distance of the Universities.


2. What insurance expenses will I have to cover?

A. The monthly insurance charge may range from a minimum of 2,000 yen.


3. Will the University help me find part time job?

A. The University will not be responsible for the part-time job of the International students. However, if requested, the International Department can help to some extent for the job search.


4. Where will the part time job be available for me?

A. The part time job can be found at restaurants and convenience stores etc.


5. How much they will pay me on an hourly basis?

A. The wages per hour ranges from 600 to 800yen.


6. Is there hostel facility in the University?

A. There is no hostel facility. The students will have to live in apartment.


7. Will the University help to find apartment for me?

A. Yes, the International Department to some extent can help find apartment for the International students.


8. Where can I find apartment?

A. It would be better for the students to find the apartment near the University location. That would help to save their frequent travel expenses.


9. How would I travel around?

A. There are buses plying around the Wakkanai Campus. However, the buses ply only on certain hours and may not be convenient to travel at the required time. The travel expenses by bus may range from 250 yen. If you have the International driving license, the students may also buy a vehicle. The students can also buy bicycle.


10. How much will be my expenses?

A. Generally, students may require 60,000-70,000 JPY per month. The apartment cost may range from 45000 yen to above. However, most of the students can share the apartment with other Japanese or International students which will help lower the expenses.


11. At what time of the year will there be snow in Wakkanai?

A. Snowfall starts in Wakkanai from October and ends at the beginning of January.


12. Where can I eat?

A. The college canteen provides a variety of healthy Japanese items at specific University hours . The students also cook at home which helphem to reduce the expenses. The students may also eat in the nearby restaurants. The food cost in the canteen may range from 300 yen to 500 yen.


C. Facilities at Wakkanai Campus


1. When can I use the WAKHOK library?

A. The Library is open from 8 of clock to 4:30 during University days. However, during weekends the library will remain close.


3. What is the timing of the University's canteen?

A. University Canteen hours is from 11:30 a.m to 2:00 p.m.The canteen is open only on University days and will be closed during holidays.


4. When can I use the computers of the University?

A. The computers can be used at any time during the University hours. However to use the computers during the University's off hours the student should get permission from his/her professor to access the computer of the laboratory.
